Charles E. Auslander, III has served as a State Court Judge in Athens-Clarke County since his appointment by Gov. Nathan Deal in December 2011. From October 2002 to December 2011, he served as a Judge in the Magistrate Court of Athens-Clarke County.
In April 2005, Judge Auslander joined the Athens-Clarke County State Court DUI Court team to serve as assistant judge to State Court Judge Kent Lawrence. Upon the retirement of Judge Lawrence in 2011, Judge Auslander took over management of the DUI Court team.
The DUI Court has been recognized as one of four National Academy Courts
since 2008 and the only court in the nation to serve as an Academy Court every year since 2008.
In May 2006 the Supreme Court of Georgia appointed Judge Auslander to the Georgia Commission On Dispute Resolution
. He has served as Chair of the Commission since 2012. In 2015, Judge Auslander was selected to serve on the Funding Committee for the newly formed Council of Accountability Court Judges
. He previously served from 2012-2015 on the Accountability Court Funding Committee. In 2011, the President of the Georgia State Bar appointed Judge Auslander to serve a three year term on the Next Generation Courts Commission. From 2009 to 2011, Judge Auslander served as an elected representative on the Executive Committee for the Council of Magistrate Court Judges and served as the chair of the Council’s Legislative Committee. In 2011, he was selected as Magistrate of the Year by the Council.
Prior to becoming a judge, Judge Auslander practiced with the law firm of McArthur and McArthur, P.A. in Athens, Georgia. Judge Auslander graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Economics and from the University of Georgia School of Law.
Judge Auslander is an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church
in Athens and previously served as an elected member of the Parish Council and as the Parish Council President. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He currently serves as a Chairman on the Board of Trustees for Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School
in Athens. From 2011-2017, Judge Auslander served on the Board of the Athens Community Council on Aging
. Judge Auslander has coached his sons' youth basketball and soccer teams and is an avid runner.
