Economic Development Department Welcomes Michelle Nguyen as New Business Development Specialist
The Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Department is proud to introduce Michelle Nguyen as their new Business Development Specialist.
Nguyen’s role as the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Specialist is an exciting venture as the department evolves and expands services to meet the needs of the vibrant Athens community. She will work with entrepreneurs and innovators in a role that was newly-created as a response to feedback from the community regarding the latent opportunity to capitalize on entrepreneurship in Athens.
Nguyen gained experience in managing the co-production of public and nonprofit services as a community liaison and special events coordinator with the City of Salisbury, NC, while also serving as a human relations specialist. Prior to joining the Economic Development Department staff, Nguyen developed her knowledge of the Athens-Clarke County community as a human resources professional in the Human Resources Department of the Unified Government.
"We are fortunate to have Michelle on our team and anticipate positive returns from our expanded capacity," said Ryan Moore, Director of the Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Department. "Michelle's experience and passion for community made her stand out in a talented pool of applicants."
Nguyen graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from the Terry Sanford School of Public Policy. She recently received her Master’s degree in Public Administration from The University of Georgia School of Public and International Affairs.
The Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Department was established as a department of the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County by ordinance of the Mayor and Commission on February 5, 2013.
The purpose is to be the primary point of contact for industries, large commercial developments, site location consultants, and state economic development organizations interested in developing, expanding, or locating new or expanded businesses in Athens-Clarke County.
