Roll Out the Barrels 2017

On Thursday, May 25, families and friends gathered at Terrapin Beer Company to bid on one-of-a-kind, functional pieces of art at Roll Out the Barrels, an annual event that raises awareness of stormwater runoff, water pollution, and water conservation, all while promoting local artists and supporting environmental education. Thanks to the generous support of local artists and event attendees, 21 rain barrels were bid on and $2,000 was raised to promote environmental education in Athens-Clarke County through the Green School Program!
The event is organized annually by the Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Management Program and Water Conservation Office, but there are many other people involved that help make this event a success year after year. Thanks to Athens Paint and Body for sealing the completed barrels with a shiny clear coat, Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful for taking barrel payments, Terrapin Beer Co. for generously providing their space, The Welfare Liners for providing the evening’s entertainment, and Mama’s Boy for providing the delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts.
And of course, thanks to all of the fabulous artists who donated their time and creativity: Maggie Baxter, Cameron Bliss, Jamie Calkin and Lauren Krueger, Zoe Daniel, Robin Fay, Cindy Jamison, Knit and Crochet at UGA, Lou Kregel, Andrew Lentini, David Mack, Anna McNeil, Maria Mueller, Whitney Osborne, Chico Rozier, Maggie Seee, Dan Smith, Ansley Sproull, Jimmy “cap man” Straehla, Lily Swindle, Chris Taylor, and Joan Terrell.

Stormwater Trailer Wrapped and Ready to Roll

The Stormwater Management Program recently unveiled a new trailer wrap design that you will soon see rolling around town. The trailer will serve as a “classroom on wheels” that can host everything from K-12 classes to pop-up neighborhood workshops and water quality sampling stations. Although we are still in the process of outfitting the inside of the trailer, we are excited to get it out and about around town!
