Drinking Water Quality & Testing

Managing Water Quality from Source to Tap

The Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities Department provides over 13 million gallons of drinking water to our customers every day.  Your water's journey begins at one of three sources:  1) North Oconee River, 2) Middle Oconee River, and 3) Bear Creek Reservoir.  The water is transformed into clean, great-tasting water at our JG Beacham Drinking Water Treatment Plant, then is conveniently delivered to your tap for use in homes and businesess.

As part of our extensive testing program, each year we collect thousands of water samples and conduct over 30,000 water quality tests.  Our water consistently meets or exceeds the federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards.
