Requested by the Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission, the Infill Housing Study examines trends related to the design and construction of new single-family homes within Athens' traditional neighborhoods. Strategies and local recommendations to achieve compatible infill are included. The link above is for the entire document in a low resolution. The study is also broken into three downloadable parts at a higher resolution:
Architectural drawings for one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom, and four-bedroom / duplex infill houses are available at the Athens-Clarke County Planning Department and here online. These drawings were completed as part of a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant received from the Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Natural Resources by the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government. You can also view notes for these drawings.
The designs were prepared by local designers / builders Van Strickland Residential Design Services and D.O.C. Unlimited (Carl Martin and Dennis Harper) in conjunction with a committee composed of representatives of the Historic Preservation Commission, Human and Economic Development, Planning Department, and the Athens Housing Authority. The premise of this project is that three goals (infill development, affordable housing, and historic preservation) can be combined to the benefit of both individual neighborhoods and the community.
