Project 7: Pavement Rehabilitation

Project Details

Pavement Rehabilitation, provides funding to ongoing necessary preventive maintenance, road reconstruction, and rehabilitation activities for various streets and roadways throughout Athens-Clarke County. The project includes crack sealing, full depth patching, resurfacing, and roadway reconstruction with the intent to preserve and extend the life of existing roadways. All roads with widths that meet or exceed 28’ will be considered for modifications to pavement markings with the goal of improving accessibility and mobility for all transportation modes.

Project Updates

The contractor has completed all pavement overlay work on all Calendar Year 2019 (CY19) roadway segments, with the exception of 2 roadway segments. The paving was interrupted on Coile Drive and Valley Road due to scheduled utility work in the area; therefore, paving will be considered in the 2020 Calendar Year Pavement Management Project. The contractor continues to work on utility adjustments and final pavement markings on already paved roads, with final completion anticipated end of November 2019.

The CY2019 PMP includes the resurfacing of 54 lane miles of roadway and preservative treatment of multiple roads throughout Athens-Clarke County.  The M&C approved the CY 2019 PMP Resolution and Contract Renewal on April 2, 2019.  Nightly work on major roads including Dr. MLK Parkway, Oglethorpe Ave, College Ave, W. Hancock Ave (with new bike lane configurations), and Baxter St is complete. Permanent pavement markings will be installed within 60 days from new pavement installation. Work on the remaining roads will continue throughout the fall with completion anticipated by November 2019.
