Our new instructor! Jane Ritchie is an artist and jeweler who has just moved to Athens, GA from Norfolk, VA. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Old Dominion University in sculpture and metalsmithing and a Masters in Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan.
During her time in Norfolk, VA Jane maintained a personal studio practice as well as taught adjunct in the Art Department at O.D.U. Including classes such as introduction, advanced, and alternative metalsmithing classes. She also spent every fall teaching an introduction to blacksmithing course. Her work has shown nationally and internationally and she looks forward to her future in Athens,
This class will cover basic metalsmithing and jewelry techniques including cutting out pieces of metal, putting on texture, riveting, basic soldering skills, basic forming techniques, and setting a cabochon stone. 3 finished pieces minimum. Basic materials, metal (copper and brass) and tools are supplied; an optional materials list will be available. This class can be taken up to 2 times, after that we recommend taking the intermediate/advanced jewelry class.
