Firefly Expansion - Ongoing through December 2017

The first mile of multi-use paved path of the Firefly Trail is currently being constructed. This includes the construction of approximately one mile of new 14’ wide concrete trail from East Broad Street to Old Winterville Road including a 495’ long bridge over the North Oconee River/ Wilkerson Street and a separate 97’ long bridge over Peter Street. This expansion utilizes existing trail features within Dudley Park to traverse around the wooden trestle over Trail Creek. Construction Notice to Proceed was issued October 19, 2016 and has begun with preliminary activities such as clearing and grubbing and installation of erosion and sediment control features are have been substantially completed. Storm drain installation, existing pier cleaning and inspection activities are underway. 

North Oconee River Greenway Expansion - Ongoing through December 2017

Construction is underway on an expansion of the North Oconee River Greenway. The current expansion consists of approximately 1.28 miles of multi-use concrete trail with plaza areas, retaining walls, and other necessary associated work and materials necessary for the completion of the project.  This section begins near the Loop 10 Bypass Park-n-Ride lot on Lexington Road and terminates along the North Oconee River.  This project extends the bicycle and pedestrian network and improves the quality of life for Athens-Clarke County residents and visitors. The construction contract has been awarded and necessary pre-construction activities are in progress. 

Easley Mill Parking Lot Closure - Beginning February 20, 2017

The Easley Mill Parking Lot will be closed to accommodate staging of construction equipment related to the North Oconee River Greenway expansion. The lot is expected to reopen in January 2018. Patrons can use the parking lot at Oconee and Poplar Street to access the Greenway and Dudley Park.
