On July 1, 2008, per the request of the judges of the Superior, State, Magistrate, and Municipal courts of Athens-Clarke County, the Mayor and Commission established a county Probation Services Office. The Probation Services Office has probation and supervisory jurisdiction of all misdemeanor offenses authorized by statute, including supervision, counseling, and collection services for all moneys to be paid by a defendant according to the terms of their sentence.

The mission of Probation Services Office is to enhance public safety and promote offender reintegration in the community through proactive supervision and referral to community-based resources.
