The airport provides facilities and services for both commercial and general aviation operations. Daily connector flights are provided between Athens-Ben Epps Airport (AHN) and the Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport. General aviation operations vary from small two-seat training aircraft to 70-seat regional jet charters.

Examples of aircraft utilizing the airport include commercial (airline), general aviation, military, public safety, medical transport, business, aerial surveying, State of Georgia, media, recreational, and more.

Divisions of the airport department include administration, airfield maintenance, fire/rescue, and flight line operations. Types of businesses operating on the airport include aircraft maintenance and management, avionics, flight training, jet aircraft leasing, aircraft ground servicing, car rentals, airlines, the Transportation Safety Administration, and the Georgia State Patrol Aviation Division. Clubs and organizations include the Civil Air Patrol, the University of Georgia Aviation Club, and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
