The Athens Green School Program is a project of the Athens-Clarke County
Recycling Division,
Water Conservation Office, Greenway,
Stormwater, Planning and
Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful. The program is designed to assist schools with environmental education and improvement efforts that focus on conservation, preservation, and beautification of our environment. Annually, the program recognizes participating schools that implement exceptional environmental education and improvement programs.
In 2005, Barrow Elementary and Whitehead Road Elementary became the first Athens-Clarke County Green schools.

Eligibility
Green Teachers Strive for 5!
To be recognized as a Green Teacher, at least five lesson plans/projects from the following areas must be completed and documented on the ACC Greeen School Lesson Submission Form: (1) Recycling/Waste Reduction (2) Beautification/Litter Prevention/School Improvement (3) Water Education (4) Environmental Education Related Community Service (5) Other Environmental Education Activity.
Green Schools Strive for 25!
A total of twenty-five environmental education activities must be documented throughout the academic school year in order to achieve Green School status.
