Charles E. Auslander, III was appointed to the State Court of Athens-Clarke County by Gov. Nathan Deal in December 2011. From October 2002 to December 2011, he served as a Judge in the Magistrate Court of Athens-Clarke County.
In April 2005, Judge Auslander joined the Athens-Clarke County State Court DUI / Drug Court to serve both as a team member and assistant judge to State Court Judge Kent Lawrence. Upon the retirement of Judge Lawrence in 2011, Judge Auslander took over management of the DUI/Drug Court team.
The Dui/Drug Court has been recognized as one of four National Academy Courts
In May 2006 the Supreme Court of Georgia appointed Judge Auslander to serve as a member of the Georgia Commission On Dispute Resolution
. He has served as Chair of the Commission since 2012. In 2012, Gov. Deal appointed Judge Auslander to the Accountability Court Funding Committee where he served until 2015. In 2015, Judge Auslander was selected to serve on the Funding Committee for the newly formed Council of Accountability Court Judges
. In 2011, the President of the Georgia State Bar appointed Judge Auslander to serve a three year term on the Next Generation Courts Commission. From 2009 to 2011, Judge Auslander served as an elected representative on the Executive Committee for the Council of Magistrate Court Judges
and served as the chair of the Council’s Legislative Committee. In 2011, he was selected as Magistrate of the Year by the Council.
Prior to becoming a judge, Judge Auslander practiced with the law firm of McArthur and McArthur, P.A. in Athens, Georgia. Judge Auslander graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Economics and from the University of Georgia School of Law.
Judge Auslander is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church
in Athens and previously served as an elected member of the Parish Council and as the Parish Council President. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He currently serves as a Chairman on the Board of Trustees for Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School
in Athens. Judge Auslander serves on the Board of the Athens Community Council on Aging
. Judge Auslander has coached his sons' youth basketball teams and is an avid runner.
