Stormwater Education

  1. SepticSmart Week 2017

    September 18, 2017, 8:00 AM - September 22, 2017, 12:00 AM

Athens-Clarke County Stormwater is taking part in the EPA’s fifth annual SepticSmart Week by encouraging ACC homeowners and community members to engage in septic system care and maintenance. Over 65 miles of Athens-Clarke County waters are listed on the state’s impaired waters list. Many of these miles are polluted by fecal coliform, a bacterium that indicates the presence of human or animal waste. Septic leaks and failures contribute to Athens-Clarke County’s water pollution problem by introducing pathogens and fecal coliform to local waters. To learn more about septic system care and how you can protect your system, visit the Athens-Clarke County Septic System Education Program website at https://athensclarkecounty.com/septic.
