It is a great honor and privilege to serve as the Chief of Police for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the eighth-largest police department in Georgia. Our philosophy integrates concepts from community-oriented and problem-oriented policing to build strong partnerships and relationships that focus on preventing and reducing crime, reducing the fear of crime, and improving the quality of life for everyone in the community.
The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has a history of dedication to professional standards in helping to achieve these goals. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) first accredited the department in 1987 as the 48th in the nation and recently recognized the department with an Advanced Accreditation with Excellence, its highest award. The Police Central Communications Center is also one of the few in Georgia to have earned its own specialized CALEA accreditation. In addition, the department was the first state-certified law enforcement agency with the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
I hope you will share in my confidence that the Athens-Clarke County Police Department is an agency dedicated to the absolute highest level of professional law enforcement service. As the Chief of Police, I am committed to continuing to provide this level of service to our residents, business owners, students, and visitors.
I encourage you to take advantage of our community meetings, Citizen Police Academy, communication tools, and other events to help us build these community-police relations. Our website pages and email/text message notifications (athensclarkecounty.com/police), our Facebook page (facebook.com/accpolice), and our Twitter account (twitter.com/accpolice) are excellent resources for keeping up with our current events and activities.
As the Chief of Police, it is my responsibility to set the standard for the service delivery philosophy for the entire department. I take this responsibility very seriously and pledge that the Athens-Clarke County Police Department will work tirelessly to achieve high levels of trust and confidence throughout our community’s diverse areas and neighborhoods.
We will earn your trust and confidence by building strong partnerships to achieve community goals and through transparency in all that we do. Above all else, we are resolute about treating each person with dignity and respect in every encounter while preserving and protecting the rights and safety of all.
I, and all of the men and women of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, look forward to working with each of you in order to help make our community the best possible place to live, work, learn, and visit.
