Leisure Services Department Scholarships

A scholarship offers an opportunity to pay less than the full fee for a Leisure Services youth program. In some cases, participants may qualify for a 100% scholarship and not have to pay any of the program fee.

Any Athens-Clarke County resident under the age of 18 is eligible to be considered for a scholarship.

Scholarship Changes - Effective July 1, 2017

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department announces important changes to its scholarship program effective July 1, 2017.

In March, the ACC Mayor and Commission voted to modify the program that provides discounts for youth programs to qualifying ACC residents.  The changes include revised scholarship levels of 25%, 50%, and 75% only.  The 100% scholarship no longer exists.  A $400 annual cap per child is now in effect which establishes a maximum amount one child can use each year through the scholarship program.  The final change is that a recent utility bill (last 90 days) and IRS Tax Form 1040 (with children listed) are now required documentation in addition to a photo ID.

Hardship procedures are in place for those who do not have the necessary paperwork.  Those individuals are required to contact the Department’s Budget Technician at 706-552-0462, ext. 21 to schedule an appointment in order discuss alternative options.

Scholarships may be renewed or applied for at any Leisure Services Department facility office and take at least five business days to process.  All scholarships expire June 30 and must be renewed annually.

Any programs paid for prior to July 1, 2017 are still covered under the previous scholarship.

For more information, please review the ACC Leisure Services Department Scholarship Policy or call 706-613-3800.
