Animal Control

If you have an emergency, such as an animal bite, a seriously sick or injured animal, or an animal trapped inside a living space of a home, call 706-613-3540 during business hours or 911 after hours.

NOTE: The Animal Control shelter holiday schedule:
Friday, 12/23: OPEN 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Saturday, 12/24: OPEN 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Sunday, 12/25: CLOSED
Monday, 12/26: CLOSED

Animal Control Officers will be available for non-emergency service calls Friday, 12/23 from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but not Saturday through Monday, 12/24 - 12/26. Non-emergency services will resume Tuesday, 12/27.

Emergency services will be provided throughout the holidays via 911.

Responsibilities


Athens-Clarke County Animal Control protects the public safety and health from at-large and dangerous animals and protects animals from inhumane treatment. Animal Control provides the following services for citizens:

  • Adoption or reclaiming of impounded and surrendered dogs, cats and other domestic animals
  • Enforcement of the Athens-Clarke County Animal Control Ordinances
  • Information regarding lost or found pets
  • Investigations of allegations of animal cruelty
  • Public education on a variety of topics related to animals
  • Public safety from dangerous or seriously sick or injured animals and at-large dogs
