Leaf & Limb Services The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department provides pick-up of leaf and limbs to all residents in Athens-Clarke County. By diverting and mulching leaf and limb material, we are meeting the requirements set forth by the state in 1996, which state that no yard waste may be disposed of in landfills, thereby saving valuable space. Athens-Clarke County began this program in 1994.
Residents are required to use paper lawn refuse bags for all grass clippings, pine straw, small brush, and leaves. No plastic bags will be accepted. Paper lawn refuse bags are available in the Home and Garden section of Target, Wal-Mart, and other local retail stores.
Schedule (updated 03.27.15) UPDATE: The leaf and limb crews are expected to complete storm debris collection in Zone 3 by Wednesday, April 1st and will move immediately to Zone 4 for the remainder of the week.
Zone 4 includes, but is not limited to, Glen Oaks, Holly Hills, Kingswood, Wood Lake, Wickersham Plantation, Stonehenge, Deerfield, Holiday Estates, High Ridge, Woodhaven, Westwood Hills, and Huntington Park. All residents in Zones 4 - 6 should place their material and storm debris on the curb immediately.
Due to the recent ice storm, the ACC Solid Waste Department is temporarily lifting curbside collection limits and set-out time restrictions for residential storm debris (leaf and limb material). Please place residential leaf and limb storm debris on the curb as soon as possible. The ACC Solid Waste Department will collect leaf and limb material under this altered service schedule until a full cycle around the community has been completed.
After the storm debris has been removed, the leaf and limb schedule will return to normal beginning in the 5 Points zone.
The ACC Solid Waste Department apologizes for any inconvenience and will work as quickly as possible to get back to a regular collection schedule.
Reminder: The ACC Solid Waste Department ONLY collects leaf and limb debris that a property owner has generated. Individuals or companies under contract by the property owner to collect leaves and/or trim limbs must haul and dispose of the debris themselves, even storm debris.
